Updating an ongoing story, Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips confirmed Friday, July 30, that WR Dez Bryant (ankle) suffered an ankle sprain, reports NFL Network.

The San Diego Chargers have started talks with representatives for OT Marcus McNeill, reports NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora, citing a league source. McNeill has not signed his reduced contract tender, but he would like to remain with the team and work out a long-term deal. The talks could result in a face-to-face meeting sometime in the next few weeks.

New York Giants co-owner John Mara said head coach Tom Coughlin is not in the hot seat, reports Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News. Mara still has faith that Coughlin is the right choice for the team’s head coaching position. He added, “You can’t let one year influence how you look at your team. You have to take a long-range view of it. The league is too evenly matched in terms of talent. If you let one bad year - - and keep in mind we were 8-8 (last year), it wasn’t like we were 4-12 - - you can’t let that play too big a role in how you look at your team.”
